Zane Pilzer, a leading economist,
predicts we are on the
verge of a "Wellness Revolution." The Wellness
Industry is focused on preventing diseases
and maintaining health levels, instead
of treating diseases after a person has
been afflicted. The wellness industry in
2001 was a $200 billion industry and since
has grown in 2003 to $300 billion. In the
next eight years projections for the Wellness
Industry will be at $1 trillion.
Why will this happen?
- The baby boom
generations are currently at the
ages of 38 to 56, which consist
of 26% of the US population. This
group controls 50% of the US spending
and has been educated and proactive
about their health. They are questioning
the conventional notion that, older
age means aches, pains and loss
of function. In fact, they are
willing to pay whatever the cost
to look and feel better. In the
coming years, this generation
will spend hundreds of billions
of dollars to stay healthy and
to slow the ageing process.
- In the coming
years, health insurance reform-
Tax-free health spending accounts
or Health Saving accounts will
become the norm. The consumer will
be able to spend their
tax-free H.S.A. money on health
related items including exercise
programs, weight loss programs
and supplementation.
- It
must, our economy will
not be able to support the rising
healthcare costs.
